"Moonshine Memories: the Old Still Site"
16x20 inches, framed oil on canvas. The latest in my series of reflections on Appalachian moonshiners history, and the biggest inspiration for starting the series in the first place.
Willard Garland made moonshine at this site in the 1950s, and my mother remembers quite well as a little girl when she saw him buy sacks of sugar and yeast at the store, and then the column of smoke rising from here on the mountain. Ax marks in barrels still bear testimony to the final time The Law busted it up and left it to be reclaimed by the mountain. My Grandfather was the deputy sheriff who left those ax marks.
All our lives this has been a favorite spot for my brothers and me.
Original painting is custom framed and ready to hang.
